Laguna (Algund), Italy - Finally see the Dolomites

I always wanted to see the Dolomites and finally made it.  I just have to say that it's drop dead gorgeous here.  Cities and towns sunken in the valleys of jagged mountain peaks and steep slopes of plump vineyards.  I sit here as I write under a big fir tree overlooking the cities of Merano and Laguna.  I am surrounded by vineyards twinkling with 3"x2' strips of metal foil (to ward off the birds).  I hear church bells from below and am watching the owner of this castle (Schloss Plars) give a wine tasting in the garden below.  I suppose Gabi, Roland, Janice and I will go to the pool soon and after play ping pong. We arranged for a picnic in the garden with wine tonight then head back to Trauchgau tomorrow.  We would love to stay longer - its is one of the most beautiful places I've seen.  One of the true joys is to walk through the many trails of the vineyards high above the valley floor alongside 12th century irrigation canals.  The sound of water is meditative and the views spectacular.  Took a nice walk along the river in Merano and then crammed ourselves in a city minibus back to our castle (Schloss Plars) on the mountain. Superb B&B!
